WHO Reports Taraba State Records Over 60 Lassa Fever Deaths Annually

Taraba State records over 60 Lassa Fever deaths annually, making it one of the states with the highest number of confirmed cases in Nigeria. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Taraba State's surveillance officer, Halilu Sani Abubakar, disclosed that the state sees 63 deaths from Lassa Fever each year.

The recent meeting held in Sunkani local government area highlighted 380 suspected cases across 16 local government areas, with 132 confirmed cases and 63 fatalities annually. The state coordinator emphasized the need for collective efforts from stakeholders to mitigate the epidemic.

Taraba, along with Benue State, faces challenges in eradicating the disease and raising awareness about symptoms and risks.
