Final Batch of 40 Nigerians Evacuated from South Africa

The sixth batch of Nigerian evacuees from South Africa concluded with the return of 40 individuals, arriving at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. This final group brings the total number of Nigerians repatriated under the government’s evacuation program to 1,174.

The operation was coordinated by the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) and involved charter flights from Air Peace. The returnees expressed gratitude for the support received, which included financial assistance and packages from various organizations.

Notably, the Imo State government pledged 1 million Naira to assist returnees, while MTN provided free SIM cards and data valued at 50,000 Naira. Other support came from the Jaal Foundation, which committed to empowering 50 female returnees, and Omega Power Ministries, which offered accommodation and educational opportunities for children.

The initiative was approved by President Bola Tinubu, with commendations for the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NIDCOM officials in facilitating the successful evacuation.
