Nigeria to Support 271 Returnees from South Africa

The Nigerian government is preparing to reintegrate 271 returnees from South Africa, who arrived in Lagos aboard an Air Peace flight from Johannesburg. Dr.

Bernard Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Poverty Alleviation, and Disaster Management, assured that the government remains committed to the dignified reintegration of Nigerians returning home. The reintegration process extends beyond receiving returnees at the airport and includes humanitarian assistance and access to opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.

Dr. Doro emphasized that every returnee deserves the chance to rebuild a dignified life and called on state governments, the private sector, and community leaders to support these efforts.

He also urged returnees to remain hopeful and resilient. Ambassador Catherine Udida, the Director of Migrant Affairs at NCFRMI, reaffirmed the agency's commitment to ensuring that every returnee receives necessary support.

The latest group of returnees comes amid rising anti-immigrant tensions in South Africa, prompting many Nigerians to opt for voluntary repatriation.
