40 Nigerians Return Home from South Africa Evacuation

On a Friday night, the last batch of 40 Nigerians returned from South Africa, arriving at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos State. This group completed the sixth batch of evacuations coordinated by the Nigerian government, bringing the total number of returnees to 1,174.

The flight was operated by Air Peace, part of a series of evacuations that included previous flights bringing home 258, 266, 262, 282, and 66 Nigerians. Abdur Rahman Balogun, Director of Media and Public Relations at the Nigerian Diaspora Commission, confirmed the details in a statement.

The returnees expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for approving the evacuations and commended several officials, including Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa, and Temitop Alex Ajayi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission. Support packages were announced for the returnees, including financial assistance from the Imo State government and donations from various organizations to aid their reintegration.
