LASTMA Seizes 84 Vehicles in Lagos Traffic Enforcement

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) conducted a weekend enforcement operation in Lagos, impounding 84 vehicles, both commercial and private, for various traffic violations. The operation took place across major traffic flashpoints including Idumota, Iddo, Ijora-Olopa, Costain, and Onipanu.

LASTMA targeted motorists and commercial bus operators for offenses such as one-way driving, dangerous reversing, illegal parking, and unauthorized loading. During the operation, LASTMA officials encountered resistance, with some being attacked and injured by suspected miscreants.

The agency reported that some attackers were apprehended. Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, described the operation as essential for restoring order and enforcing compliance with traffic regulations, particularly in areas where violations have hindered traffic flow.

A significant concern was the dangerous practice of commercial buses reversing against traffic on the one-way stretch from Iddo to Idumota through Cater Bridge, which poses risks of serious accidents.
