Disruptions Hit Benue APC NASS Primaries Amid Hijacking

The APC National Assembly primaries in Benue State were disrupted on Saturday due to the late arrival and alleged hijacking of electoral materials. Reports indicated that materials meant for the federal constituencies, including Makurdi, Guma, Gwer East, and Gwer West, were hijacked during distribution from the party's secretariat in Makurdi.

Sources within the party claimed that materials were taken away by suspected party members loyal to the state governor, Hyacinth Alia. The incident significantly affected the smooth conduct of the primaries in several areas.

Daniel Ihomun, a party chieftain, confirmed the hijacking and delays in material distribution. Alhaji Sabiu Mahuta, the chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Committee in Benue State, attributed the delays to logistical challenges.

The situation was reported to the police headquarters for resolution, as voting was delayed in various local government areas, including Kwand and Logo, with the chairman of Agatu local government, Melvin Ejeh, confirming that voting concluded around 6:15 PM.
