LAWMA Condemns Attack on Enforcement Officers in Lagos

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) condemned an attack on its enforcement officers that occurred on Sunday in Mazamaza, near Festac. The officers were conducting routine environmental monitoring and compliance operations when they encountered individuals allegedly involved in illegal waste disposal.

Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director of LAWMA, described the incident as unacceptable and a direct affront to government efforts to safeguard public health and maintain environmental sanitation.

He warned that any individuals found obstructing the agency's statutory duties would face prosecution. Despite the attack, LAWMA's enforcement team continued its monitoring operations along key corridors, including Iyana Iba, Okokomaiko, and Agbara.

Gbadegesin reiterated the agency's commitment to curb indiscriminate waste disposal and called on residents and businesses to support government efforts by utilizing authorized waste disposal services. He also highlighted that unauthorized dumping remains a significant challenge to effective waste management in Lagos State.
