LAWMA Arrests Three for Illegal Waste Dumping in Lagos

On May 8-9, 2026, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) arrested three individuals for illegal waste dumping in the Ketu Alaper area of Lagos State. This action is part of ongoing efforts to curb environmental violations.

Tokunbo Wahab, a representative from the Lagos State Government, disclosed that the arrests followed a surveillance operation conducted by an investigative team. The investigation revealed that the individuals were unlawfully disposing of waste at unauthorized locations, which prompted LAWMA to take action to deter further misconduct.

The investigation also indicated that the lack of proper waste storage facilities contributed to the illegal dumping. The properties involved were not registered for private sector participation in waste collection.

LAWMA has forwarded the documentation to its legal department for further legal action. Wahab emphasized the identification of blackspots during the operation and reiterated the commitment to enforcing environmental sanitation laws, warning residents against indiscriminate waste disposal.
