Nigerian Lawmakers Question Minister Over Delay in Distributing 2,000 Tractors for Agriculture Program

Lawmakers interrogated the Nigerian Minister over the delayed distribution of 2,000 tractors promised under the Renewed Hope Agriculture Mechanization Program. The tractors were supposed to be deployed nationwide to enhance agricultural practices.

The Minister defended the Ministry's 2026 budget and explained that the delay was to prevent the misuse of the tractors, as seen in previous programs. The Federal Government had procured tractors of various capacities and agricultural implements.

The program aims to establish agricultural mechanization service centers across six geopolitical zones to provide tractor services to farmers at minimal costs. The Minister emphasized the need to modernize farming practices to ensure food security and increase agricultural output.

The rollout of the program is set to begin gradually as the rainy season approaches.
