Reps Investigate N174.3bn Agricultural Fund Delays

The House of Representatives has launched an investigation into the alleged non-release of N174.26 billion earmarked for agricultural intervention funds. The panel, led by Bello Ka Oj, has mandated relevant ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to fully cooperate and provide necessary documentation to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.

The investigation is particularly focused on the role of development partners, including the African Development Bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency, in ensuring accountability regarding the use of these funds. Concerns were expressed about the severe impact of the delayed fund release on farmers, who have already missed planting seasons, which could lead to reduced output for the 2025 harvest and pose significant risks for the 2026 farming season.

The investigation highlights the urgency of implementing interventions to rescue Nigeria's agricultural sector and guarantee food security, especially given the potential jeopardy of a $200 million fund from the African Development Bank due to non-implementation of earlier interventions.
