Lawyer Demands Probe into Alleged Misuse of Public Funds

Human rights lawyer and politician Deji Adeyanju has urged for an investigation into the alleged misuse of public funds to finance President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid. Adeyanju stated that the statutory allocation from the federal account for political campaigns violates the Nigerian Constitution, raising serious criminal concerns.

He emphasized that public funds, which belong to the states and federal units, cannot be used for partisan political interests. Adeyanju accused the government of diverting billions of naira from statutory allocations for campaign purposes, which he described as a breach of trust and misappropriation of public funds.

He criticized the lack of transparency and absence of public consent regarding these alleged deductions. Adeyanju has called on anti-corruption agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), to investigate the allegations, recover the diverted funds, and ensure accountability for those involved.
