Bagudu Urges Local Governments to Enhance Social Protection

Abubakar Bagudu, the Minister of State, addressed local government chairmen at a stakeholder engagement hosted by the National Social Safety Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO) in Abuja. He called for stronger collaboration across all tiers of government to enhance inclusive development and strengthen social protection at the grassroots level.

Bagudu emphasized that Nigeria's constitution imposes a moral duty on public officials to ensure the welfare of citizens. He acknowledged the ongoing economic hardships and insecurity faced by Nigerians, despite their hard work in various sectors such as farming, fishing, and small businesses.

The minister pointed out that social protection is essential and requires a coordinated approach involving federal, state, and local governments, as well as civil society organizations and community stakeholders. He reiterated the constitutional mandate for government authorities to work collectively towards achieving national development objectives.
