FG Urges Local Governments to Drive Economic Inclusion

The Federal Government of Nigeria has called on local government chairmen nationwide to lead initiatives aimed at economic inclusion and the enhancement of social protection systems at the grassroots level. This statement was made during an event in Abuja by Abubakar Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning.

He emphasized the importance of local government ownership in development programs to improve living conditions and reduce poverty. Bagudu noted that despite efforts, many Nigerians continue to face economic hardships, and social protection is essential for inclusivity.

He highlighted the need for a coordinated approach among federal, state, and local governments, as well as partnerships with civil society organizations. The minister referenced the 2017 National Social Protection Policy and the Home Grown School Feeding Program as key initiatives.

He also mentioned the approval of the Renew Hope Ward Development Program by the National Economic Council, aimed at identifying service gaps and developing priorities for interventions at the ward level.
