Kwara APC Aspirants Urge Tinubu to Keep Royals Out of Politics

Ten governorship aspirants from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State have issued a warning to President Bola Tinubu to refrain from involving royal fathers in political matters. In an open letter dated Monday, they expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the APC governorship primary held on May 22, 2026, where Salihu Danladi emerged as the winner with 94,990 votes, defeating 14 other aspirants.

The aspirants raised concerns about efforts to legitimize the primary results through the involvement of traditional rulers, who they believe should not engage in partisan politics. They emphasized the importance of internal party democracy and expressed loyalty to the APC while urging the president to ensure that traditional institutions remain neutral.

The letter was jointly signed by notable figures including Dele Belgor and Yahaya Gambari. The aspirants also highlighted security issues in various local government areas in Kwara State, questioning why royal rulers were mobilized for political endorsements while security challenges remained unaddressed.
