ASUU Suspends Strike, Gives Nigerian Government One-Month Ultimatum to Address Demands

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its two-week warning strike that began on October 13, 2025, following the Nigerian government's renewed commitment to addressing critical issues affecting public universities. ASUU's President, Professor Chris Piwuna, announced the suspension in Abuja, giving the government a one-month ultimatum to address demands such as withheld salaries, promotions, arrears, and the release of funds for university revitalization.

The decision came after the government failed to respond to ASUU's overtures and engage in constructive dialogue. ASUU commended the National Assembly for its support and urged the government to fulfill its obligations under the 2009 agreement.
