Nigerian Senate Order Paper June 2 2026: Bills and Motions

The Nigerian Senate sat on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, with several items on its agenda.

On new bills, five were listed for first reading. Three were health-related: a Records Officers and Digital Health Bill (SB. 1013), a Federal College of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (Repeal and Enactment) Bill (SB. 1014), and a Medical and Dental Practitioners Bill (SB. 1018) — all sponsored by Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele. Two other bills introduced were a University Teaching Hospitals Board Amendment Bill (SB. 1037) and a Service Delivery and Compliance Management Bill (SB. 1038).

A notable motion was tabled on the urgent need to revive Nigeria's textile industry, particularly in the Kaduna-Kano axis. The motion noted that Nigeria once had 167 textile mills employing 500,000 people but that all major mills had shut down by 2007. It called on the Federal Government and relevant ministries to act, and urged the Nigerian Customs Service to curb textile smuggling.

The Senate also considered a committee report recommending confirmation of Barr. Benedict Umeano as a member of the Code of Conduct Bureau, and a Federal Polytechnics Act Amendment Bill sent from the House of Representatives for concurrence.
