INEC Confirms Leak of Confidential Info on NDC Aspirant

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has acknowledged that confidential electoral information related to National Democratic Coalition (NDC) Representative aspirant Emeka Ik was leaked by personnel with valid credentials. This admission follows allegations that voter registration details belonging to Ik surfaced online shortly after he announced his intention to contest for a House of Representatives seat in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

INEC's statement, issued on Tuesday, indicated that the commission is conducting an investigation into the matter. Preliminary findings revealed no external breaches or hacking incidents involving the Commission's Central Voter Registration (CVR) database.

Instead, the unauthorized release of information was attributed to valid user credentials assigned to personnel involved in the ongoing CVR exercise. INEC has stated that it will examine the technical and administrative operations surrounding the incident to determine if there was a breach of internal access control protocols.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has also commenced an independent investigation into the matter.
