Lesley Ugochukwu Set to Switch Allegiance to Nigeria

Lesley Ugochukwu, a 22-year-old midfielder who has represented France at various youth levels, is on the verge of switching his international allegiance to Nigeria. With a senior call-up to the French national team appearing unlikely, Ugochukwu is considering playing for the Super Eagles.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been actively pursuing him to make this switch. Born in Rennes to Nigerian parents, Ugochukwu became provisionally cap-tied to France after debuting in a European U19 Championship qualifier against Kazakhstan in November 2022.

He is currently in the process of acquiring his Nigerian passport, which will enable him to officially switch his nationality with FIFA. Once completed, he will be eligible to play for Nigeria under Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle.

Ugochukwu is known for his defensive capabilities and box-to-box playing style, which would enhance Nigeria's midfield depth and competition.
