Eric Chelle Secures New Contract with Nigeria Football

Shehu Dikko, the chairman of the Nigeria Sports Commission, confirmed that Eric Chelle will remain the head coach of Nigeria's senior national football team and has been handed the responsibility of managing the U-23 team. This announcement followed a meeting of the Nigeria Football Federation in Abuja, where plans for the future of the national teams were discussed.

Chelle's initial two-year contract is set to expire at the end of 2026, and negotiations for an improved deal have been ongoing for several months. The new contract includes a monthly salary package of $130,000, which will cover remuneration for Chelle and his assistant staff.

Dikko stated that the agreement aims to ensure a smooth transition of young players from the U-23 side to the senior team. The U-23 team has faced challenges, failing to qualify for the last two FIFA World Cups and missing the men's football event at the last two Olympic Games.
