Ndukuba Calls for Economic Relief for Nigerians Amid Growth

The Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), called on the Federal Government to ensure that recent improvements in Nigeria's macroeconomic indicators lead to tangible benefits for citizens. He made this statement during his presidential address at the 15th General Synod held on September 17 at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Ikenne-Remo, hosted by the Diocese of Remo, Province of Lagos.

Ndukuba acknowledged positive trends in macroeconomic indicators but emphasized that the real measure of success is their impact on households. He noted that while inflation is moderating, it remains high, and the persistent rise in essential goods prices continues to erode purchasing power.

He expressed concern over Nigeria's public debt, which reached N159.28 trillion by the end of March, stressing that high debt servicing costs limit capital expenditure. Ndukuba distinguished between productive investment borrowing and consumption borrowing, asserting that the latter deepens debt burdens and impoverishes citizens.
