LG Polls: Wike Loyalists Flood APC Chairmanship Slots As RSEIC Releases Final List

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has released its final list of candidates for the upcoming local government elections, with a significant number of loyalists to Governor Nyesom Wike flooding the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship slots. The list, following a screening exercise, includes candidates from various parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), APC, Labour Party, Progressives Grand Alliance, and others.

The PDP is fielding three chairmanship candidates, while the APC has presented 20 candidates across the state's 23 local government areas. Notably, the APC candidates are largely Wike loyalists who have previously served as LGA chairmen during the governor's tenure.

RSIEC Chairman Michael Odey emphasized the need for collaboration with security agencies to ensure a credible poll during an interactive session with civil society organizations.
