Lionel Messi Wins Prestigious Princess of Asturias Award

Lionel Messi, the captain of the Argentina national team and a World Cup winner, has been awarded the Princess of Asturias Sports Award, Spain's highest honor in sports. The award was announced by Teresa Peral, the president of the committee, who highlighted Messi's exceptional sports career, leadership, humility, and commitment to charity.

Messi's foundation has notably improved access to education and healthcare for underprivileged children. He was selected from 27 candidates across twelve countries.

This accolade makes Messi the third footballer to receive this award, joining the ranks of Xavi Hernandez and Iker Casillas. The award comes as Messi continues his preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, further adding to his illustrious career, which includes previous winners of the award such as Martina Navratilova, Michael Schumacher, Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams.
