LIRS Extends Income Tax Filing Deadline to April 2026

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has announced an extension of the deadline for individuals to file their annual income tax returns to April 21, 2026. This decision was disclosed in a statement signed by Monsurat Amasa Oyelude on Friday.

The extension follows a surge in the usage of the LIRS electronic tax filing platform, which prompted the agency to move the previous deadline from April 14. The LIRS attributed this extension to heightened activity on its digital tax platform and emphasized the importance of compliance with tax obligations.

The agency is making adjustments to deadlines as part of ongoing efforts to improve tax compliance and streamline the filing process. The LIRS continues to advocate for the full adoption of its electronic tax filing system, which is part of a broader reform aimed at modernizing tax collection in Lagos State.

The agency also highlighted the significance of timely compliance with federal tax obligations, especially in light of recent changes in the tax environment.
