Lisabi Festival Celebrates Unity and Leadership Legacy

The 39th Lisabi Festival was commemorated with a call for unity and sacrificial leadership by Egba High Chief Mustapha Abdulhakeem. He emphasized the importance of collective action and the historical significance of Chief Lisabi, a brave warrior whose actions in 1760 helped reshape the destiny of the Egba people under the Oyo Empire.

Chief Abdulhakeem noted that Lisabi's resistance against the Oyo Empire was not a spontaneous uprising but a calculated revolt that marked a significant step towards freedom for the Egba community. He highlighted that while Lisabi's actions did not immediately stabilize the region, they ignited a spirit of independence and resilience among the Egba people.

The festival serves not only as a cultural celebration but also as a reminder of the sacrifices made by ancestors, encouraging the current generation to navigate their challenges with a long-term vision inspired by Lisabi's legacy.
