Nigeria's Livestock Ministry Partners with Military for Food Security

The Nigerian Ministry of Livestock Development, led by Minister Idi Mukhtar Maiha, has announced a partnership with the military to enhance food security through large-scale livestock production. This collaboration was disclosed in Abuja during a meeting with a delegation from Defence Holdings Company Limited, represented by Chief Executive Officer Ogochukwu Igboamalu.

The initiative will involve a joint technical assessment of military farms nationwide to evaluate existing livestock operations and identify capacity gaps. The goal is to deploy targeted government support to boost food production self-sufficiency within the military.

The Ministry will also visit farm formats to ensure proper standards align with national food security objectives. Additionally, the Ministry plans to develop integrated grazing reserves, starting in Wase, Plateau State, featuring an internal road network, veterinary clinics, and dedicated crop-pasture zones to support modern ranch systems.

The partnership is expected to create a replicable model for integrating security institutions into national agricultural production frameworks.
