Atletico Madrid Thrashes Barcelona 4-0 in Copa del Rey

In a commanding performance, Atletico Madrid triumphed over Barcelona with a 4-0 victory in the first leg of the 2025-26 Copa del Rey semi-final on Thursday night. Nigerian international Ademola Lookman, who joined Atletico from Atalanta earlier in the month, made a significant impact by scoring once and assisting another goal.

Atletico took the lead just seven minutes into the match due to an own goal by Barcelona goalkeeper Joan García, who failed to control a back pass. The hosts doubled their advantage in the 14th minute when Antoine Griezmann curled home a shot following a pass from Nahuel Molina.

Lookman scored Atletico's third goal in the 33rd minute, finishing a low strike after a square ball from Giuliano Simeone. Just before halftime, Lookman assisted Julián Álvarez for the fourth goal.

Barcelona's Pau Cubar had a goal disallowed for offside after a lengthy VAR review. Despite a missed opportunity by Alexand Srloth, Atletico Madrid's emphatic victory leaves them in a strong position for the second leg.
