Tinubu Approves ₦68bn for Maiduguri Power Plant Support

Senator Ali Ndume commended President Bola Tinubu for approving ₦68 billion in operational support for the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP). This funding, part of a presidential intervention initiative initiated in 2021, aims to mitigate prolonged power outages caused by insurgency and vandalism of power infrastructure, leaving the state without electricity for nearly two years.

The funds will be disbursed in phases of ₦2 billion monthly, with the total expected to bridge the existing funding gap for operations until December 2028. Ndume expressed gratitude for the federal government's response to the long-standing power issues affecting the people of Borno, emphasizing that stable electricity will enhance economic activities, particularly in the informal sector.

He also highlighted the importance of military efforts in combating insurgency and called for vigilance from citizens to protect power infrastructure from further destruction.
