Maine GOP Candidate Seeks ICE at Polling Stations

Bobby Charles, the Republican nominee for governor in Maine, announced his intention to request the Trump administration to send Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and U.S. Marshals to polling locations ahead of the November 3 election.

During a Maine Young Republicans event, Charles stated he would appeal to Tom Homan, the White House border czar, three weeks before the election. He raised concerns about undocumented immigrants potentially receiving money to vote, despite no evidence supporting such claims.

Dale Crafts Jr., Charles' campaign manager, defended the proposal, asserting that Charles would pursue all lawful measures to prevent illegal voting in Maine, especially as the state is now a sanctuary state. Charles, who previously worked in the White House under Ronald Reagan and at the State Department under George W.

Bush, won the Republican nomination in June. He will compete against Democratic nominee Hannah Pingree, daughter of Rep. Chellie Pingree.

The Maine Democratic Party criticized Charles, calling him a “MAGA extremist” and denouncing his proposal as voter intimidation.
