NLNG Advocates for Methane Reduction at Gastech 2026

Nigeria Liquified and Natural Gas (NLNG) has called on the global gas industry to prioritize methane reduction, stating that each tonne of methane released equates to lost revenue and potential marketable gas. At the Gastech 2026 Exhibition and Conference in Bangkok, Thailand, NLNG’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Adeleye Falade, emphasized the need to shift the focus from the costs of methane reduction to the value it generates.

He noted that NLNG's strategy involves measuring methane losses and investing in leak prevention and gas recovery, with independent verification for credible reporting. Falade cited NLNG’s new boil-off gas compressor and start-up gas recovery project, which aim for methane reductions of 10-15% and have positive projected net present values.

He stated that investments in methane reduction not only cut emissions but also enhance asset reliability and plant efficiency. NLNG has achieved Gold Standard recognition under the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) 2.0 and is the first in Africa to reach Level 5 methane emissions reporting.
