Oyo Governor Confirms Abducted Pupils Still Missing

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde provided an update on the rescue efforts for the 46 pupils and teachers abducted on May 15 in Oriire Local Government Area. He confirmed that the victims are believed to be held within the Old Oyo National Park, a challenging terrain spanning approximately 2,500 square kilometers.

The abduction, which resulted in the reported killing of teacher Michael Oyedokun, has sparked widespread outrage and protests led by the Nigerian Union of Teachers, demanding urgent government action. Recent reports indicated that the abductors made several demands, including the implementation of Sharia law and a ransom of N1 billion.

However, Rachael Alamu, the principal of Community High School in Ahoru Esiel, dismissed claims regarding the ransom and Sharia law. The governor urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities while cautioning against the circulation of unverified information that could hinder rescue operations.
