Oyo Governor Confirms Abducted Pupils Still Held

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed that abducted school children and teachers are still being held by bandits in Old Oyo National Park. The abduction occurred nearly a month ago, specifically on May 15, 2026, during coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery Primary School and Yawota Community Grammar School.

In a newsletter released on the previous day, the governor reassured residents that security agencies are intensifying efforts to ensure the safe release of the victims. He acknowledged the pain and anxiety experienced by the families of the abducted individuals, emphasizing that while assurances of rescue may offer little comfort, the state government remains committed to pursuing every credible lead.

The vast and challenging terrain of the Old Oyo National Park, which spans approximately 2,500 square kilometers across ten local government areas, complicates rescue operations. Makinde urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, while cautioning against the spread of unverified information that could undermine ongoing rescue efforts.
