Makinde, Mohammed Reconsider Defection to ADC Amid Crisis

Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, and Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State, are reportedly contemplating a shift from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) due to recent developments within the PDP. Sources close to Makinde indicated that he is slowing down on plans to join the ADC, especially after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) withdrew recognition of the ADC's leadership, creating uncertainty among politicians considering a switch.

The INEC's actions followed a court ruling that maintained the status quo regarding leadership disputes within the ADC. The ADC's national convention is scheduled for April 14 in Abuja, but the ongoing leadership crisis has cast doubt on the party's stability.

Despite speculation, Makinde's special adviser on media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, denied any plans for the governor to leave the PDP. Similarly, Bala Mohammed remains committed to the PDP, despite earlier rumors of a potential defection.
