Makinde Receives Oyo Abduction Inquiry Report, Promises Action

On September 29, 2026, Oyo State Governor ‘Seyi Makinde received the report from the Judicial Commission of Inquiry, chaired by Hon. Justice (Prof.) Mojeed Owoade (retd.), concerning the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Community, Olorunsogo Local Government Area. During the meeting at the Executive Chamber, Governor Makinde assured the public that his administration would thoroughly examine the commission's recommendations.

He stated that the Oriire attack tested the security measures his administration had implemented, including the operationalization of a toll-free emergency number and the establishment of a Security Control Room. Makinde acknowledged the efforts of various security agencies involved in the rescue operation and stressed that mere rescue is insufficient; preventive measures must also be prioritized.

He linked the findings to his national advocacy for a security reset in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for a functional security system. The governor committed to ensuring accountability and transparency in addressing the issues raised by the commission.
