Makinde Receives Inquiry Report on Oriire Abduction

On September 30, 2026, Governor Seyi Makinde received the report from the Judicial Commission of Inquiry, chaired by Hon. Justice Mojeed Owoade (rtd), regarding the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire community, Olorunsogo Local Government Area. During the reception at the Executive Chamber, Governor Makinde assured that his administration would thoroughly review the commission's recommendations.

He stated that confidentiality would not be an excuse to evade accountability, highlighting that the Oriire attack tested the security framework established by his administration. Makinde noted that while some claim crime rates have decreased under his leadership, the Oriire incident is a significant failure in protection.

He discussed the necessity for a national security reset and the importance of having distinct systems to identify failures.
