Makinde Disputes Wike's N50bn Claim for Ibadan Airport

Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State and presidential candidate for the Allied Peoples Movement, publicly rejected Nyesom Wike's assertion that the Federal Government allocated N50 billion to support the upgrade of the Ladoke Akintola International Airport in Ibadan. This statement was made during a town hall meeting in Katsina on September 22, 2026.

Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, had claimed during a TVC interview that President Bola Tinubu's administration provided the funds for the airport project. In response, Makinde clarified that the upgrade is being financed entirely by the Oyo State Government, stating, “The Ibadan Airport upgrade project is being undertaken 100 percent with the funds of Oyo State.” This dispute highlights the differing accounts between the two political figures regarding the funding source for the airport upgrade, coinciding with Makinde's campaign activities leading up to the 2027 general election.
