Judge Warns Counsel of Contempt in Malami Case

On Tuesday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, issued a warning to counsel regarding unruly conduct that could stall proceedings in a case involving former Attorney General Abubakar Malami and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The judge emphasized the need for strict compliance with court directives and noted that any failure to file necessary processes would result in the matter being deemed abandoned.

Counsel J.S. Okutepa, representing the EFCC, informed the court that the lead defense counsel, J.B.

Daudu, had received a call regarding an appeal. Justice Abdulmalik expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of the matter and warned that any misconduct could lead to contempt charges.

She set a hearing date for May 26, 2026, and instructed that interested parties must file necessary processes by April 27, 2026, to avoid being shut out of the proceedings.
