Abubakar Malami Challenges EFCC's Forfeiture of Properties Worth Billions

Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's (EFCC) interim forfeiture of 57 properties valued at N213.23 billion. The EFCC alleges that these properties are linked to Malami and his two sons through proceeds of unlawful activities.

Justice Emeka Nwite had issued the interim forfeiture order on January 6. Malami's wife, Bashir Asab, and son, Abdulaziz, are facing trial for alleged money laundering involving N8.7 billion.

The court granted Malami bail in the sum of N500 million with two sureties, and the trial is set to commence on February 17 with 16 counts filed by the EFCC.
