Sowore Claims Malami Tried to Secure El-Rufai's Release

Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate and activist, has alleged that Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General of the Federation, sent people to him to assist in securing the release of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. El-Rufai is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged financial misconduct during his tenure from 2015 to 2023.

Muyiwa Adekeye, El-Rufai's spokesperson, disclosed that the former governor was held overnight in custody, and there were claims that his wife was prevented from delivering food to him. El-Rufai had reported to the EFCC headquarters on February 16, 2024, following an invitation related to allegations of corrupt practices.

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has accused him of misappropriating ₦423 billion and engaging in money laundering. Sowore emphasized that he does not support impunity and suggested that individuals involved should face consequences.
