21 Pupils Dead in Fatal Bus Crash in Uganda

A tragic bus crash in Chekwatit, Kapchorwa District, Uganda, resulted in the deaths of at least 21 pupils from King David Junior School and injuries to 60 others. The accident occurred on Thursday evening as the students were returning from an educational excursion to the popular Sipi Falls tourist attraction.

Eyewitnesses reported that the bus lost control and veered off the road, colliding with a large rock, which caused severe damage to the vehicle and trapped several pupils inside the wreckage. Emergency response teams worked through the night to rescue survivors and evacuate the injured to nearby hospitals.

The Uganda Police confirmed the death toll and stated that investigations have commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash, with preliminary reports suggesting possible mechanical failure, excessive speed, or poor road conditions. The incident has raised renewed concerns about road safety, particularly regarding school transport in Uganda, as advocates call for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and improved vehicle safety standards.
