Marketers Demand Action From FG, NNPC as Port Harcourt Refinery Fails to Resume Operations

Marketers are demanding action from the Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) as the Port Harcourt Refinery fails to resume operations. The refinery has been closed for 79 days following planned maintenance that began on May 24, 2025.

This extended closure has caused financial hardship for petroleum marketers who rely on the refinery's operation. The Petroleum Retail Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) criticized the sluggish restoration efforts, with the Eastern Zonal Chairman expressing concern over the lack of enthusiasm from NNPC's group chief executive officer.

Marketers are urging the NNPC to prioritize the Port Harcourt Refinery and calling on President Bola Ahmed to take prompt action to revive operations. The delay in restarting the refinery is seen as undermining the country's agenda.

Additionally, fuel prices at NNPC retail outlets have been adjusted to N895 per liter, adding to the urgency of the situation.
