Nigeria's Cooking Gas Prices Surge to N1,500/kg Amid Fears

The price of cooking gas in Nigeria has reached N1,500 per kilogram, prompting concerns among marketers about potential scarcity. The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM), represented by Executive Secretary Edu Inyang and member Bassei Essien, described the situation as alarming and detrimental to millions of Nigerians who depend on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for daily cooking needs.

The price increase, which varies by location, has been attributed to persistent supply shortages, high depot prices, and logistical challenges. NALPGAM warns that the crisis could undermine progress made by the federal government in promoting clean energy and could lead to increased reliance on firewood and charcoal, posing serious public health and environmental risks.

The association has called for urgent government intervention to stabilize the market, improve LPG availability, and reduce operational costs to prevent further hardship for vulnerable households and small businesses.
