Atletico Madrid initially took the lead just before half-time when Jorge Dominguez, set up by Morten Hjulmand after a corner from Koke, scored past City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Manchester City equalized in the 57th minute when Antoine Semenyo's low cross from the left was converted by Marmoush. Just two minutes later, Marmoush scored again with a similar play, finishing Semenyo's cross.
