Labour Party Urges Nigerian Government to Improve Worker Welfare

On May Day 2026, the Labour Party (LP) urged the Nigerian government to intensify efforts to enhance the welfare of workers. The party, which was registered in 2003, reaffirmed its commitment to the struggles and aspirations of Nigerian workers.

In a statement signed by the party's National Public Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the LP acknowledged the current administration's steps to alleviate the harsh realities faced by workers, particularly in light of the recent increase in minimum wage. However, the party emphasized that more needs to be done, especially considering the prevailing inflationary pressures.

The Labour Party commended the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for their steadfast commitment to protecting workers' rights. The LP reassured Nigerian workers of its unwavering support in the collective struggle for good governance and fair wages, aligning with the ideals of the International Labour Organization.

The party also encouraged workers to maintain faith in the LP as a genuine reflection of their values and aspirations.
