Tinubu Addresses Insecurity and Poverty on May Day

During the May Day celebration at Eagle Square in Abuja, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emphasized that insecurity and poverty are significant threats to jobs, productivity, and national stability. He addressed thousands of workers and labor leaders, stating that decent work cannot be achieved if workers fear for their livelihoods.

Tinubu's administration aims to tackle these challenges urgently, launching initiatives to recruit 45,000 young Nigerians for community security and creating jobs. He highlighted economic and social interventions, including expanding cash transfers to 15 million vulnerable households to lift an estimated 7.5 million Nigerians out of poverty.

The President also mentioned infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline, which are expected to generate 600,000 jobs. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to implementing a new national minimum wage and addressing pension arrears, with plans for a micro-pension scheme for informal sector workers.

Tinubu called for sustained dialogue with labor unions and emphasized the importance of improving worker welfare and safety.
