NLC and TUC Endorse Sokoto Governor for 2027 Elections

On May 1, 2023, during the International Workers' Day celebrations, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) endorsed Sokoto State Governor Ahmadu Aliyu for a second term in the 2027 elections. Abdullahi Aliyu Jungul, the Sokoto State Chairman of the NLC, announced the endorsement, highlighting the governor's administration's welfare policies, including the implementation of the N70,000 national minimum wage and the regular payment of salaries and pensions.

Jungul emphasized that there was no reason to seek a change in governance, commending the governor for his efforts in improving worker welfare. The governor was presented with an award for excellence by the labor unions, marking the first time such an award has been bestowed in the state’s history.

Deputy Governor Idri Muhammad Gobir expressed gratitude for the endorsement, while Abdulkadir Ahm, the state head of service, urged workers to reciprocate the government's efforts with dedication.
