Kylian Mbappe Almost Joined Liverpool Before PSG Move

Kylian Mbappe disclosed that he was close to joining Liverpool in 2016 while playing for AS Monaco, but ultimately chose Paris St-Germain (PSG) after disregarding his mother’s advice. At the age of 18, Mbappe attracted significant interest from Liverpool, managed by Jurgen Klopp, whose approach was favored by Mbappe's mother.

She visited Liverpool and Anfield, experiencing the atmosphere firsthand, which she loved. Klopp later recounted that Liverpool made considerable efforts to persuade Mbappe and his family, including arranging a private jet from Blackpool to Nice for discussions.

Despite these efforts, the transfer did not happen, and Mbappe joined PSG on loan in 2017 before completing a permanent transfer for €180 million (£165.7 million). He spent seven years at PSG, becoming the club's record scorer, before moving to Real Madrid in 2024.
