Sean McCann to Swim for Scotland at 2026 Commonwealth Games

Sean McCann, the younger brother of Madeleine McCann, will compete for Scotland in freestyle swimming events at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, which begin on Thursday. Sean, now 21, was only two years old when his sister disappeared in 2007 during a family holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

Despite extensive searches and an ongoing British police investigation since 2011, Madeleine remains missing. Sean hopes his performance at the Commonwealth Games will help him secure a place on the Great Britain team for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

He is a student at Loughborough University and previously represented Scotland at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Tobago in 2023, finishing fifth in the 400m freestyle. Sean trains rigorously, with over 20 hours of training per week.

It is uncertain if his parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, will attend the event, although Gerry has expressed that hope for finding Madeleine is “slim” but not “extinguished.”.
