MDGIF Attracts N1.6 Trillion for Gas Projects in Nigeria

The Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) has successfully leveraged N671 billion in public funds to attract N1.6 trillion in private investment aimed at enhancing gas infrastructure projects throughout Nigeria. Mr Oluwole Adama, Executive Director of MDGIF, announced this at the 2026 Annual Conference of the Association of Energy Correspondents Abuja (AECAF), represented by Elvis Duruji, Director of Strategy, Research and Deal Origination.
The fund has supported 31 projects, which will provide approximately 475 million standard cubic feet (mmscf) of gas daily upon completion. This initiative addresses financing and infrastructure challenges that have hindered investments in the midstream gas sector.
MDGIF's efforts include commercializing flare gas and expanding gas distribution infrastructure, partnering with four flare-out awardees to monetize 444 million standard cubic feet of gas daily. Notably, MDGIF is backing a five million standard cubic feet per day mini-LNG plant by Topline Ltd. in Delta State, marking Nigeria's first indigenous mini-LNG project, which faced financing issues for three years before receiving MDGIF's support.
