Olanik Nafisat Balogun: Trailblazer in Nigerian Aviation

Olanik Nafisat Balogun is recognized as the first female pilot within the Nigerian Customs Service, holding the rank of Deputy Superintendent. Born in Kaduna and hailing from Odo Otin in Osun State, she joined the Nigerian Customs Service in 2002, initially serving in the airways unit as cabin crew.

Balogun pursued her ambition to become a licensed pilot, earning an advanced diploma in air ticketing and cabin service, as well as a master’s degree in public administration from Ahmadu Bello University. She obtained her pilot certification from a flying academy in Miami, Florida, marking a historic milestone.

Despite lucrative opportunities in commercial aviation, Balogun chose to remain with the Nigerian Customs Service, enhancing its operational capabilities and serving as a role model for women in aviation. She actively mentors young Nigerians, particularly women, encouraging them to pursue careers in aviation and break barriers in this traditionally male-dominated field.
