Meta Launches Safety Tools for Nigerian Teens and Parents

Meta unveiled enhanced safety tools for Nigerian teens and parents during the Nigeria Youth Safety Summit, co-hosted with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development at Transcorp Hilton Abuja. The summit brought together government officials, civil society organizations, parents, educators, creators, and youth leaders to discuss digital well-being and the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration.

Keynote presentations included insights on parental supervision tools designed to help parents navigate their teens' online experiences. Sylvia Musalagani, head of safety policy for EMEA at Meta, emphasized the company's commitment to providing safe online experiences for teens.

The tools include features that allow parents to receive notifications when their teens report content and set daily time limits on Instagram usage. Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim from the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development acknowledged the importance of collaboration in ensuring children's safety online.

The summit aimed to strengthen partnerships and promote digital literacy among Nigerian youth.
